"Meineke Car Care Centers, Inc. (pronounced "Mine-a-Key") is a franchise-based automotive repair chain that allows many small business owners to pull together and collectively be able to offer customers across the country quality work at a fair price, and a national warranty. Meineke is a full car care service center that can do everything except body damage work.
In 1972 in Houston, Texas, Sam Meineke began with only one store and a single product line. He also started with a simple concept: He would provide quality products and workmanship at a fair price and fix folks' vehicles correctly, the first time. Today, still based on Sam's ideals, Meineke is one of the most recognized and trusted brands in North America.
Between 1972 and 2003 Meineke was owned by a multinational British company and grew rapidly. In July 2003 Meineke was the subject of a stock purchase agreement for its acquisition by members of Meineke management and two financial partners, Carousel Capital, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina and The Halifax Group, based in Washington, DC and Dallas, Texas, from its then owner Brambles.
From 1972 to 2003, it was known as Meineke Discount Muffler Shops, Inc.. Earlier in 2003 Meineke Discount Muffler Shops, Inc., became Meineke Car Care Centers, Inc. After 32 years as one of the most recognized and trusted brands in America, it was the perfect time to change to a name that was more reflective of the company's comprehensive service offerings. The name change also included a new tagline, "Right Service, Right Price."
In 2006, the parent company became Driven Brands, Inc. and acquired the quick oil change company Econo Lube 'N Tune Inc. There are 4 companies under the Driven Brands umbrella: Meineke Car Care Center, Econo Lube 'N Tune, Aero Colours, and Tortal.
Presently, there are approximately 900 Meineke franchises throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China, Saudi Arabia and the Caribbean, with plans to keep international expansion going strong. Recognized as one of the largest automotive franchises, Meineke franchisees have serviced more than 50,000,000 vehicles since starting out in 1972.
The new Meineke tagline is "Life Doesn't Always Give You Options. Meineke Does."
Bucky Cochran and Ken Carter were named the 2007 Franchisees of the Year.
George Foreman has been the Meineke Spokesperson since 1993. The Meineke Car Care Bowl is played in late December at the Bank of America stadium."
