Copps Food Store on Highway 19 and Highway C in Sun Prairie first opened up in March of 2007. It is a 60,000-square-foot store with a large selection of many different foods.
It was a welcome addition to the residents of the West side of Sun Prairie. It is a very nice modern grocery store that has long been wanted in the area. It looks like it will have competition soon, though, as the Target Super Store just got approval from the Sun Prairie Planning Commision. Super Target, which includes a full grocery store, plans to be open in Spring or Summer of 2008. The Woodman's Store also has property almost "kiddiecorner" from the Target, on Highway C on the East side and just South of Brooks Drive, that it has said that it was going to soon submit plans to build on. Woodman's has 11 stores and is building its 12th store in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek. We may go from no stores close by to a very nice grocery store for every day of the week before you know it.

Just got back from Copps Grocery store and I am so ticked off. Not only do you have to have a "member card" so you can get certain discounts when you check out, now they are really pushing the "Coupon Book" items. Walk through the store and there are signs all over that highlight the low price of an item and then, when you read the fine print, it is a coupon book item. Don't have the coupon? Tough for you. Doesn't matter that you have their card that they use to track your purchases, you also have to AGAIN cut coupons out of the newspaper. I'm sure that enough people must not read the fine print and check their register receipts so that the Copps Grocery "bean counters" have figured that they will snag enough of these people to make up for the people that they are ticking off, but, they are not getting my money for these item. I'm sure they don't even care. They started off with, if you get a card, you don't have to cut coupons. Now, you need to cut coupons and have a card. This as they raise prices and cut down on the amount of ounces or pounds that you get. Before you know it, they will be selling empty boxes of "food".
Beware Copps: Woodman's Food Store is coming to Sun Prairie in another year. Your days are numbered.
